New steel fuel rail-vapor lock

After the new steel fuel rail was installed my 1995 Aurora would not start after the engine was very hot and sat idle for a few moments.
When the engine cooled down it would start and run just fine. Is there any way to keep this new steel fuel rail cool from the engine heat?
The metal mountings to the fuel rail are attached directly to the engine block and transmit the heat to the fuel rain directly.
Any help would be appreciated,

Highly unlikely your problem is vapor lock. Hard starts on Aurora are mostly due to the FPR. Especially seeing as you just had the fuel rail recall done. Your existing FPR gets removed from the old nylon fuel rail and reused on the new stainless fuel rail. This is where the dealers mess up. All recall part numbers are different on the 1995 vs the 1996/1997 models. The 1995 has always had a different part number for the FPR vs. other years. There are 2 different FPR seal kits used on the recall depending on wether you have a 1995 or 1996/1997. The seal kit consists of 3 new o-rings and a filter screen that all get retrofitted to your existing FPR. Also comes with a new style retainer for seating into the new stainless rail.

Your dealer may have used the wrong parts, used old parts, left out a part, skewed an o-ring etc... Also he may have done everything right. These FPR's are just plain troublesome as it is when disturbed. My old one leaked when they tried to reuse it so they just replaced with #89017530 which I believe fits all new stainless rails and includes the seals??

Anyway, I would have them try the FPR first. The dealer showed mine as being warranted and part of the recall work so apparently GM will reimburse dealers if submitted when doing the fuel rail work.

By the way, are you the same "Green Machine 1995" that's always been on this forum? I see this thread is your first post.

I am not the old greenmachine person. When the engine is cold there is no starting problem. When I put ice on the hot fuel rail for two minutes the engine restarts without waiting for a total engine cool down.

I agree with thumpin455

Could it be, Your ' Fuel Pressure Release ' is not releasing the extra pressure caused by a vapor lock.

Part #89017530 is for the non-steel line system. Check this listing from Rock Auto. Evidently, for some strange reason, the OLD part number on the steel line system is the same as the new design for the nylon lines!

I will try a new fpr. It still seems to me the fuel line should not get that hot in the first place, a basic engineering design problem with the metal support brackets attached to the engine.
Thanks for the help all of you responders.

I would take it back to the dealer and complain. I have not had any trouble on my 95 after the fuel line recall.

MOST DEFINITELY!

Pull the vac line off the regulator and see if gas runs out you may just have a leaky regulator. I had similar problem long crank time on hot restart due to raw fuel sucked into the intake.

I had the same problem with my1995, It was a bad fuel Injector regulator. It was leaking. Once the car sat for a while the fuel would stop leaking and evorporate. Hope that helps
