Did the insurance write it off just because it was uneconomical to repair(i.e. repairs more than car value) or is it that it's just too mangled to be safe?!

Re: Custom 96 4dr cavi
they sed repairs would cost more then the car was worth and they sed that it probably had frame damage but being a unibody car made it all fixable so i did it myself

If it had frame damage then it could need to be straightend on a jig but could still never drive the same. It could end up crabbing, or it may have pancaked and could drive odd. Not trying to piss on your campfire just wouldn't want you to spend money fixin' her up to have a sweet looking car that you can't drive! I don't know how it works where you are but sometimes you need to re-register a car that has been written off by an insurer and it has to go through a safety cert in order to be re-registered.

Ok then that's cool! Yeah I think that smoothing always looks good on a car. What type of look are you going for. Race inspired, out and out show, avantgarde? What about a sidewys and upward opening trunk or cut it in half and use two door hinges, one each side so it opens out from the middle. Side opening hood, Just paint and stuff under the hood with an intake to dress it up, maybe powdercoating, black looks good and no-one does it! suicide the rear doors. Shave the handles, fit mirrors from something else- subaru impreza?! build headlamp eyebrows into the hood. Lip kit moulded in. That kind of thing. There's quite a few original ideas in there! Best thing is originality!
