Getting on to the 15 N from Caroll Canyon Rd. Accelerating off the on-ramp, I merged in front of a semi. Looked over to the left to see if it was clear. When I looked back in front of me, traffic in the lane had backed up and I was 10 feet from a Neon going about 15mph. I was going about 50mph.

OUCH!!! I'm so sorry! Looks alot like my accident. I wasnt going quite as fast but its about the same. My radiator support wasnt torn up as bad though. Damn.... how are you? If you are ok.. no injuries, then its a good thing your car was lowered otherwise your airbags would have opened.

Actually, the funny thing is the car isn't lowered. I removed the Eibachs and put on the stock springs because I was trying to sell the car. Somehow I still managed to basically go under the rear bumped of the Neon.
As for the airbag... if you notice the airbag sensor is attached to the radiator support that's now sitting a bit above the radiator. It was basically pulled back from the bumper on impact, so it didn't ever receive and pressure to signal the airbag. Makes you wonder if they'd be effective at all against an SUV or something similar.
One thing I have to say... Honda hood latches are pretty damn strong. Strong enough to rip apart the radiator support and twist back the upper crossmember. And the hood is still latched tight.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Damn!
Well, I guess you don't have to worry about selling it now...
Glad you're OK though - how's the person who was in the Neon? And out of curiosity, how did the Neon look?

neon actually wasn't that bad. bumper's a bit scuffed up, but not much a good paint job wont fix. They'll probably have to put the car on a frame rack and pull the rear bumper supports... but then they could probably just put the old bumper back on and repaint it.
And for the really bad news... unless a miracle happens, insurance will not be covering me for the accident. It's a long story and I don't really want to get into the reasons why... but basically I'm kinda shafted on this one.
