Question Water Leak!! help, somebody throw me a life preserver...

ive got a 92 cavalier, RS. so i did a search on here about water leaks, gathering on the floor boards. everyone had puddles on the passengers side.. my poool is on the drivers side. both front an back. its only when it rains, it smells clean. i guess anyways, its hard to tell with the mildew smell.. the seals around the door look fine, the firewall doesnt have any water marks/rust. an when it rains, it doesnt just saturate my carpet... im talkin like atleast a half inch pool on the floor board. the lil trap thing that runs along the front of the windshield is clean, no clogs or anything. i went out an sat inside when it was raining an felt the carpet all around the edges of the floor. nothing seemed wet any higher than 1-2inches above "sea level". i removed the door jams, nothing there.. however, i suspect two things... one, that half inch ridge that runs along the top of the doors along the whole side of the car... or two, it is a rust bucket. the rocker panel on the drivers side has two half dollar sized rust spots. also there is a quarter size rust spot just below the door jam. would it be possible for the water to get inside the car from the rocker panel? the whole under side of the car has a considerable amount of rust on it too. looks like it sat in the ocean for a couple years. ive heard about the hose thing, but its too cold for that shit right now, but any advice would be much appriciated..

Check the weather stripping along the edge of you door when it rains to see if it's wet anywhere on the inside. Try feeling up into the footwell behind the dash for wet spots. I don't see it coming up from the rocker panel! Does this only happen when driving or even when parked? Do you have a sun roof?

no it doesnt matter if its sitting there or if im driving. i just looked at the door seals again. i saw a little discoloration around the seal on the drivers door, so i peeled it back slightly an it almost looks like its rusted out under the seal. so im thinkin about buying a couple feet of the rubber seal an just ripping out the old one.. ive got two questions tho, where can i buy a new rubber seal? an if it is rusted out under the old one, will it still work properly if i have to increase the diameter of the seal on to good metal? like not placing the new rubber exactly where the old one was cuz it would still leak... maybe another option would be to use silicone around the edge of the old rubber seal? like half on the rubber, half on the fresh metal (after cleaning it of course)

oh an thats a no on the sunroof question

it could very well be a leaking windshield... like noshun said just check everywhere for wet spots around the inside perimeter of the car. if nothing else works, id say go sit out in the car next time it rains and see where the water is seeping in from (or dripping)

ok so i didnt go with the silicone idea, i took a realy close look at it today, cuz it was realy nice out. an the weather strip has a little wear from sitting against the rust, but i think itd still be ok. i sanded down the rust bubbles, with a real abrasive paper, then a finer one for a realy smooth surface. i picked up a can of spray on undercoating, an coated it about 3 times. its supposed to rain within the next day or two, so ill let u all know if it worked or not. BTW the undercoating wasnt the ruff surface kind, it was cheaper, more or less just black spray paint. i just wanted sumthin to make a smooth surface again. thx for all the help guys, peace
