Has anyone installed a remote start on an 04 Rodeo?

Just wondering whether anyone else has installed a remote start on an Isuzu Rodeo. I have one that has less than 3000 miles and needed to bring it in for service due to stalling and was told that Isuzu doesn't allow remote starts on ANY cars/suvs because it interferes with their computer system. They refused to service it and said that the remote start needed to be removed. I find this hard to believe and think that I got blown off. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Robin

Pretty much any dealer/manufacturer freaks out when they see an aftermarket remote start kit installed on their vehicles. Especially for warranty work. Rodeos are somewhat *special* due to thier (GM/delphi) factory alarm system & "convenience starting" feature on 2002+ I have installed remote start kits & they are a bit invasive, but if installed properly are fine. I do however recommend to anyone. DO NOT have a remote start or alarm system installed on a vehicle still under manufacturers warranty. Dealer service will blame what ever they can on that system. I would unplug your remote start system until you get your concern addressed.

Hi Joel, thanks for the reply! I was wondering if I can just unplug the control module for the remote start itself or does the wiring harness for the remote start need to be removed from the cars harness?

Thanks again.

Yes. Try to just unplug & remove the control box. Just make sure the truck will start & run afterwards. Ther harness(s) are spliced/soldered/crimped into your ignition & start circuit wiring. You'd have to undo everything & carefully tape all the wiring back up. Not impossible, but will take some doing.

I am leery about remote starters only because I hear people say that if its a crappy brand, it eventually destroys your starter...I dont know if this is true...but let us know!

Well, like anything, anything can go wrong. I had one in an older pickup where the guy installed all kinds of crap like extra lights, strobes, CB's,and an external jump start hookup. Well, he had a major voltage spike and it froze up the RS brain where it turned on everything (including starter) and wouldn't shut off. It melted the starter.

As far as the Rodeo, as long as a reputable shop installed a decent product, the dealer can't do anything about it. The Magnuson/Moss act is there to protect consumers. If they do, tell them you need them to put whatever they say in writing. They can not void any warranties.
