is there a button.....?

working on my sisters blazer right now, want to reset the computer, already disconected the - cable and pulled fuses to ECM. But just wondering if the is an actual reset button anywhere. My buddy had a '95 S-10 that had one underneath the ECM, and since these things are built on the same frames, just wondering if the ECM reset would be similar. Oh yeah, my sisters is a '96 model (4dr LT-if it makes a difference)Thanx

I'm going to call bullshit on that one....In 22 years with GM I have never seen a reset button for a computer.

Are you trying to clear the codes after a repair? If so, leave the battery disconnected for a while, this should wipe out current stored DTC data.

Re: is there a button.....?

Could have sworn I saw it when we swapped his 4 banger and dropped a 4.3 in its place. (It was the ECM for the 4 cylinder)

But hey, I believe you, you're the one w/ 22yrs under your belt. (We also had been drinkin' then)

In any case, cleaned my sisters air intake, MAS, throttle body (or thing that looks like a throttle body on fuel injection anyway), EGR, PCV, and other unrelated stuff, reset the ECM, and thus far, no codes have popped up. Glad I decided to do this rather than replace the other 3 out of 4 O2 sensers the computer was reading. Saved about $160 if thats all it needed.

The only button to clear codes is on a scanner.

GMMerlin
The only car and truck Sold by GM that had a emission reset button was in the GEO line. At a set milage the check engine light would come on and there was a reset button to turn it off.

Re: is there a button.....?

Man, that would be handy to have on every vehicle.

Like a computer reset instead of removing the negative batery terminal and removing the ECM fuses can be tedious sometimes.

I agree, thank god for reset buttons on computers though, since on one of my machines I have to do it ALL the time. (Because it is running windows )

Re: is there a button.....?

It would have been nice if they would have put it in a nice place but noooo they put it under the driver side dash panel and up real high near the windshild and it was a real trick to get at. And pulling the fuse or battery did not reset it.
