burning up rear bearings and brakes on 95stewart711 02-05-2005, 04:24 PM Hello Again In the last 6 months I have burned up 3 pass rear wheel hub and bearing assy's, speed sensors, wheel cylinder and brake shoes. Always on the passenger side rear. This keeps happening. I have even bought a new drum after the second melt down. Any ideas? Thanks Stewart711 theFREAKnasty82 02-08-2005, 05:27 AM try jacking the car up on that side and trying to turn the wheel. If it's binding, your automatic adjuster is messed up, allowing the shoes to drag along the drum and raise the temps up super high. stewart711 02-08-2005, 06:25 PM Hello freaknasty82 thanks for your reply. I have been messing with this auto adjuster and i can't tell if somethings wrong with it. It isn't an old time starwheel, however the wheel spins ok without much scraping noise either. thanks again theFREAKnasty82 02-10-2005, 06:24 AM There are a few other possibilities: check your e-brake cable, make sure it's not too tight because it'll cause shoes to drag. The next thing could be a bad proportioning valve that jamming the wheel cylinder. How does the pedal feel when you go to hit the brakes? stewart711 02-10-2005, 08:38 AM Hello freaknasty82 The E brake cable is OK. This proportioning valve, sounds like your on to something. The car seems to brake ok in lite traffic, but the pass rear wheel gets hot and traggy in traffic. This proporptioning valve, is it possible it is not bleeding down fully? Thanks again stewart711 theFREAKnasty82 02-11-2005, 05:53 AM There's a very good possibility that your rear proportioning valve is faulty. Try that and see what happens. Worse case scenario is that the master cylinder is bad because the piston is not returning; but I doubt it's that b/c then your front brakes would lock up before the rear does. sattech2000 12-18-2005, 11:46 PM I know this is an old post but if anyone else has this problem. Turned out, in my case, the rubber brake hose at the wheel had broke down and was restricting the fliud return causing the brake to hang for an extra few minutes. What led me to that was having a hard time bleading that wheel, very little fluid flow. Replaced the hose and bleeding it was no problem, Havn't had wheel bearings/shoes go bad since. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
