93 Cav Tach help
I've been reading posts about putting a tach into automatics. I've bought a tach for about $40 canadian, and it looks pretty good. It's only got settings for 4-6-8 cyls. Now, i here that i can just hook it into the wire that comes off the coil packs, or what ever it's called, hehe. But there's 2 of them, and so i'll only be getting half a normal reading. I don't got money to go out and buy a "converter" to amplify it. Is there anything else that i can do? I'm great with electronics, and do repairs. does anyone have a schematic or know what's inside one of those converters? Or if theres any other places i could tap into to get a full rpm reading. From what i understand, there should be a tach wire somewhere for mechanics. hmm. Anyways, thanks for the help. i'll check back soon to read replys =P

Re: 93 Cav Tach help
If ur car is fuel injected the tach signal will be stronger at an injector, There will be one wire that will be common to all the injectors, thats the wrong one. use any one of the uncommon wires. In your car their should be more wires than that at the coil pack though, In Gms the white wire at the coil pack is generally the tach wire, or it could be a purple white. either way i hope this helped

Re: 93 Cav Tach help
Follow your spark plug wires from the spark plug back. At the end of the spark plug wires there should be a coil pack or a distributer. At that there should be a plug, with wires coming off of it. Tap on to either the white or the purple white for your tach signal.

but isnt there 2 coil packs? which then when hooked to my tach, my signal will only be half of what it should be. so the tach will be wrong.
aint i right?
