Re: playing in the dirt has its consequences
I assume you still have stock springs? If the spare tire is in the under bed position remove it to rule out the spare being the cause of the noise. Examine the springs carefully for a broken leaf. If they are ok check that the spring to differential u-bolts are tight. If the u-bolts are tight. Get a helper to rock or bounce the rear of the truck to see if you can duplicate the noise. If you can duplicate the noise use a cheap mechanic's stethoscope and listen in the vicinity of the noise. The loudest area should be the source of the noise. You can try a silicone spray lubricant in the area where the noise isfound, it may help but probably will not last long. Don't use WD-40 because it's not really intended to be a lubricant and it attracts dirt with the oily film it leaves. If the noise is in the spring between the leafs make sure the pads at the end of each leaf are still in position. I hope this gives you some ideas about what to look for.
