Question 89 beretta problems

I have a 89 beretta that ran fine when I bought it but soon after it frequently stalled. Always seemed to do it when acellerating or sometimes at a stop and more frequently when engine was hot. Every time I let the car sit for a long time (2 months) it ran fine for first 5 miles but soon after started to backfire. Changed spark plugs and wires seemed to make things worse. Diognostic reads no faults but fuel pump turns on and off every other time I try to start the car. Think its a bad fuel pump or computer but still stumped by the diognostic reader not picking that up. PLEASE HELP ASAP!

Number one suspect would be crank sensor. Can go or act up without a code, usually when hot. Does the car start right back up when stalling? Does it start right away when cold? Does it idle OK? Could also be ignition module failing. These usually start acting up when damp outside(hard starts) and can cause the car to start sometimes and then not at different times. Fuel pump also a weak point on these cars, but most of the time the pump goes and won't start at all. Has the filter been changed? Without further information hard to be sure what to try, but the crank sensor is cheap and easily replacable. Ignition module easy 80-100 bucks and more diifficult. Cleaning the IAC would be advised as well, as it will help with a smooth idle. Will carbon up over time.
There is one thing more, if your car stalls badly when slowing down after getting hot, your TCC solenoid could be bad. The car will shudder when slowing down like an old standard shift in high gear, and then won't restart until cooled. There is a way to unhook it if this is closer to your symptoms...

Here's some more info: 89 Beretta Problems

Either have to floor it to start it when egine is hot or otherwise and more often I have to let the car sit for 10 min.

Engine surges for a little bit after starting but then eases down If let sit to long the idle tends pitch between 500-1300 rpms and then dies. (usually around 15 min range) ALSO if put into gear engine may die (rpms drop extremely low). Replaced Ignition Modual. Did not replace fuel filter. Thanks for Info given so far. Ivan R
