How hot does your NEW impala run

Im not sure what temp it is, but i do know that the temp guage is usually pointed up in a verticle position.

Also, what is all of this stuff with dex-cool?

I like GM products, and i want to replace some of the rad. fluid, but i have seen bad things about dexcool, what is the deal with it?

Also, what comes in the car from the factory?

Re: How hot does your NEW impala run

Mine, when going down the road will stay at a little bit over a quarter of the guage. but when it's sitting idiling, it will go to a notch or two past half way. I thought that was kinda odd, so i took it in and they said it was ok. I just dont' like how it does that.

DeathCool is what they put in GM cars at the factory.....they're supposed to be changing it later this year to something called,
Zero-G-05. Its supposed to be better for your car, but im pretty sure thats what they said about DeathCool :/.

Same here...

My '01 Impala does the same. That temp needle usually goes a bit over the half way point when I'm idling or driving surface streets. The message window stays dark and everything else seems normal. One of the service reps at a Chevy Dealership said it was normal, "All Chevy's are like that..." Yeah, whatever...

Re: How hot does your NEW impala run

In the summer here in Phoenix, mine runs at almost the half mark... a little more if I'm out running on the highway on a steep hill... never close to the red line. I also run dexcool... I did have to replace the intake manifold gasket about a year ago...... I suspect it was from the dexcool....

Re: How hot does your NEW impala run

I have a 2005 Impala w/3.8 engine, 2200 miles. Today the temp is 96deg. out, engine thermostat controlling pretty good at 185deg. Appears each increment on gage is 15deg. Doing mostly around town driving today.

-Thats the highest temp either of my Impala's hit...

-Dex-Cool has been shown to corrode some parts in the many many cars its been put into.

-Dex-Cool comes in the car from the factory, BS guarenteed for however long, 100k miles?

I replaced the dex in my car, no problems for 145k miles, but im not taking chances. I had my theromostat stick in my car making it run maybe an 1/8th of the way up from the lowest temp setting, I didn't mind the car running cool, but it wouldn't be good when winter rolled around, now it runs right in the middle idleing and 1/3 from the bottom crusing

Re: How hot does your NEW impala run

Well...i noticed today in the 95 degree heat, if it was idleing with out the A/C running it would go two notces past half and that seems a little to much to me....if i turn the a/c on, it will go to two notches from half and stay there and the cooling fans kick on like there is no tomorrow and they kick on at a pretty high speed, but when the a/c isn't on, the cooling fans don't to this. It's kinda weird and i don't understand the big temp flux from going down the road to the idleing.....I also run dexcool too...but I have two gallons of the green stuff waiting in my trunk....

Mike--When running down the road, the radiator is getting pretty good air flow from the ram air through the radiator. If you pull over off the highway, the temp may raise for awhile until the heat in the engine from higher speeds is dumped into the radiator and blown away with the fan.
The air conditioner is extracting heat from the interior of the car and dumping that heat into the air coming into the front of the radiator. It will make the engine run hotter.
