hi im going to go and look at a 93 rodeo tomorrow, 4x4,3.2, 160k miles, new brakes, and tensioner, a/c power windows, the guy claims that the car runs great and that all it needs is a clutch (which i think is priced around 150 correct me if im wrong), hes asking 450/best said hed take 350....if it checks out ok wed give him 300

is there any common problems with this year that i should be looking for....he also said that the car would have to be towed out due to the clutch, wouldnt you still be able to drive on the clutch and just have it slipping if it needed to be replaced?? it kind of makes me wonder if theres some other major problem like the transmission or something, and hes claming it to be a lcutch issue...is there any way to check if the trans is ok, and if the clutch is really the problem?

thanks guys

I would check for oil leaks, most definitely. Test drive and scan bottom of the engine for leaks...Back in 93 there was a recall because of this.

thats the thing, he said the car cant be driven bc of the clutch needs to be replaced....so im thinking it might be another problem, bc if the clutch is bad you should still be able to drive it, just have it slipping gears

start it up and see if it runs.

It could be the clutch master cylinder too.

Remember: Its your money they want, Fire it up like Amigo said and see if you can check it that way. Good luck!

if it's the clutch thats out, the thing to look for is the tranny id# on the drivers side of the firewall. it will be 3 letters, either MM5 for the borg-warner trans or RMN for the MUA/Muncie. The RMN clutch is signifigantly more expensive, it is a 10 1/4" versus a 9 7/16" in the borg warner. if it has the RMN tranny, you could have 450.00 -500.00 into a clutch pack versus 180 - 250.00 for the borg warner. just something to think about, how much do you want to invest.
