can anyone confirm that you can put in 6 1/2" speakers for the rear deck of a 1991 corolla?? Crutchfield states that 5 1/4" are supposed to be installed, but I read somewhere that you could possible put 6 1/2" speakers instead. I know that the 96 Corollas have 6 1/2" speakers in the rear.

so I wouldn't be able to use the mounts or speaker housing that my 5 1/4" are bolted into?? Would I have to make the opening a little bigger for 6 1/2" speakers??

I think I might just hook up the speaker wire to 6x9 and get 6x9 boxes and mount them in the trunk.

just cut some mounts out of wood or something, remove your housings and bolt the new ones into the same place as your old housings. you dont have to cut any thing on your car. i just did this a few weeks ago

is it possible to remove the rear speaker grilles and mount 6x9 boxes instead or would that look stupid??

I did that it looks good and becuase of the boxes pointing forward it is loud but a 1990 toyota corolla doesnt have rear speakers so you have to run your own wires. took me about an hour and a half

corolla 1990: did you take out the rear speaker housing and the speaker grilles in order for the 6x9 boxes to lay flat on the rear deck??

in a 1990 corolla there are no rear speakers in the car when it was first built the "speaker grills" are not speaker grills at all they cover up the trunk hinges. the 6x9 boxes look good and sit flat fine
