F20C driveline rotation?

ok, I have seen lots of people ask about mating a F20C to a F series FWD tranny but they get answered thjat they will have 5 reverse gears and one LOW forward gear because the motor spins opposite direction.

well I am looking to do a sawap into my old datsun truck. and I can get the complete swap for 3800 buckls because theres not much use for it besides replacement or custom jobs so it isnt very popular I guess.

I am just curious to know if the driveline spins the same direction as everythign else and Ill be able to feed it to my divorced T case and not end up with 6 reverse gears and one forward gear. I assume the reverse spinning direction probably just had to do with the different trannies to get the wheels to turbn the right direction without the use of a bunch of counter gears or whatever, but I remmber people wanting to swap in the FWD 3VZDE from a camry I think into the runners where the 3VZE sat. so to a RWD tranny both FWD and RWD systems engines spin the same between those 2 cars so it confuses me a bit.

well a simple way to cure that problem would be to flip the rear differential upside down but the only thing is i dont know if the differential will still bolt back into place if it's upside down but if it wont you can always fabricate some brackets to hold it in place.

I'm actually pretty sure that the FWD F/H-Series trannies will not bolt up to an F20C/F22C. As far as I know, the bell housings are different. (Don't quote me on this though.)

well, I didnt want that, I said I heard when you do that(if you could, which wont happen) youd have 5 reverse gears because the engine rotates opposite, but through the tranny, would it come out standard.. first guy got it.

and about flipping the axle, that would get the pinion out of the lube and there arent lubrication passages just like on the old hi-pinion axles to keep it properly lubed with the pinion above the flueid level

well if this is a rear wheel drive car that we're talking about and i'm sure it is, you have 5 reverse gears because of the way the engine turns...now, you have the driveline spinning the wrong way which is causing your 5 foward gears to spin backwards and your reverse gear to spin forwards....now flipping the rear dif would offset this effect and cause the car to drive properly...now as far as lubrication, the filling hole on the dif is naturally higher up than the drain hole, but you seem to forget that when you flip the dif the drain hole is now at the top, so all you have to do is fill the dif normally then plug it and flip it, when it is flipped simply remove the drain plug cause it's now at the top and add a little more fluid to compensate the low level of fluid so that everything still stays lubricated properly

Re: F20C driveline rotation?

well thats what I was wondering, I dont have it and I dont have 5 reverse gears, was wondering if I was to use a F20C/6 speed in my truck, does the tranny output shaft spin opposite of the standard rotation of everything else. I just know the 5 reverse gear thing was because if you ever hypothetically got a F20C to a FWD tranny you got 5 reverse gears. and if the F20C is reverse of other honda engines then it spins the right direction as my truck engine does just didnt know if the tranny output shaft went the right way. and about fdliping the axle, the drain bolts at the top so hopefully you dot have to drain/refill it ever and expect it to bean easy johb. and filling it to the level f the fill plug, sure it would stay lubed but isnt a gallon of 80/90 covering the R&P gonna cause alot more resistance than stock setup causes???

or you can just go buy a dif that is already set up to run backwards then you wont have to worry about the filling level

Re: F20C driveline rotation?

well, Id worry about that after I found out what way the tranny output shaft spins. havent gotten an answer on that yet.
