Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
Sometimes we just learn to inspect a car better as we become older as well...
Any older car will have some possible issues...Some you can spot, others that are looming in the future...
I like the Ford Powertrains though...
Good luck with it.

Re: Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
Yes people Ford Lightnings are supercharged 5.4L V8's.
Squirrel Nuts, I don't know why you want to give up so easy on Camaro's, so you bought two junk 6cyl cars. If you got you hands on a Z28 or SS you would totaly change your mind on the FoRd. Camaros have so much more upgrades, and if you drive a camaro people won't make fun of you like they will with the ford. Also price difference. The camaro is going to be way cheaper. Think about this... I was at an auto auction (my bros a dealer) I watched a 2000 lightning bring more than a 2000 Z28 6 spd.
Also you should think about how much the insurance co is going to rape you on the Lightning.

Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
If he had a 4th gen v6, esp a 3.8, it;d be different. If you can't afford a z28 how the hell can you afford a lightning!?

Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
Guys give him a break, its his choice.... we cant force him to drive a camaro..... he will learn from his mistakes and be back sooner than you know it.... but squirrel do look into factor such as insurace, cost of vehicle and cost of parts..... and if the lightning is still cheaper than a z or ss and its what you want then go for it and good luck....

Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
whew, i thought the lightnings were eights, thought i was losing my mind for a sec. i just wanted to make sure the lightnings were eights. we got a couple around here and they really arent too much. i was gonna be very dissappointed if they were sixers, my buddies beat up on the svts all the time...

well lets be honest here......................
Ive riden in both a Lt1 and a Lightning and honestly the lightning was a lot of fun to drive. If you drive in a camaro for a while and get used to the low center of gravity, then get in a truck(especially a fast truck) its a completely different experience. Im not sayng the truck is faster, just different. An god knows chevy makes some pretty shitty trucks. So if he's into the trucks then give him a break.
But i'd still take the Camaro

Re: givin up the good ole fbodys
i owned a 91 with a 6, i was dissapointed i traded down a year and got a 8 with a 5 speed and couldnt be happier. do what you want, but what ever you do, the lightning is still a bulky truck, and you will miss the comfort and sleekness of a car.

first off dont remember who said it but im not judging all camaros based upon the 2 six's ive had, in fact one was a family car owned since new and always gave problems. Im saying the insurance on a 4th gen v8 fbody for me would be 380 per month, so an 8 is kinda outta the question and sixes arent quick or reliable enough. also for the man who asked what are the lightnings puttin down try 380hp and 450tq. it is not a bulky truck it is actually quite tiny and insurance would be 265 per month. I hate to give up my car and will still love fbodys and plan to own many of them when im older just right now i think have an eight is outta my range unless i buy an 80s' early 90's camaro convert it to an ls1 and pull a little insurance fraud but eh we'll see
