You do a flush to get all the conventioanl oil sludge out of the engine so it is clean for the new oil.
Synthetics are so good that they will essentially clean your engine itself but the drawback is that it will get dirty real fast when you switch over.
With the flush, you won't go through that.
Also note, there are only a few REAL TRUE synthetics on the market, the rest are made from conventional oil and are not even close to the real thing.
Only true Synthetics are:
Mobil 1
Amsoil
German Castrol Syntec 0w30 only (Look on the back of the bottle, it has to be made in Germany to be full synthetic)
Esso XD-3 Synthetic (0w30/0w40 only) (Available in Canada only)
Redline
Schaeffers
All the rest are NOT true synthetics, but are hydrocracked conventional oils.
