vehicle emissions inspections

Vehicle emission inspections are taking the fun out of hot rodding your car/truck. Last year, I had no problem getting my 350 S10 inspected. Today, was a no go. Now my truck has to have a y pipe, a cat., egr, air tubes, and any other emissions stuff that was required for my 1985 model year. Three months ago I had a new dual exhaust and headers put on my truck, and now the same guy who put this stuff on my truck, won't inspect it. What a rip off!!! I also have a 74 nova that has long since had the old smog pump removed. (Try to find one of these without paying an arm and leg for it!). I think I may have found the solution to this problem without sacrificing performance and without having to change any of my modifications. I have to re-register my vehicles as collectibles. I have some restrictions as to how much I can use the car/truck, but they are exempt from emissions. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to live with, but I wonder how much longer before it's time to part with my toys, and start driving (dare I say it ) a ricer. Hope I'm long gone before it happens. Thanks for letting me vent!

Emissions took alot of vechicles off the road.Make way for the ricers.

The province that I live in in Canada has emissions close to the big center (Vancouver B.C.), but 80% of the province doesn't have to comply.

There are 2 good outcomes from this.

1 - if you don't live in the emissions area and you want to buy a nice car... buy 1 in the emission zone that flunked the test.

2 - If you live in the emissions testing zone you only need friends that live in the non tested zone who will let you show their address when insuring your car (no test required then)

I've done both of the above.

I kinda think that they should leave it up to the cops discression. If a car is really polluting, or seems to be un-safe they should have the right to give the person 1 week to fix the problem... or pull the car off the road.

Runnin high octane(airplane fuel)could get past the running part of the tests as I know of people who did it.It's the part where the guys actually look for the emission parts (smog pumps,egrs,etc.)that catch people.
