oh damn, B18C replacing B16A, IM secondaries?

ok, I think I f'd up.

my friend just blew his B16 and wanted to swap in a B18C1 and I told him instead of the swap, just get the longblock and use the ECU/axles/mounts/harness/linkage/etc...hes already got and it will be alot cheaper. not until just right now did I think about the intake manifold having those secondaries in the IM, and I know that the B16 doesnt and so then the ECU hes got wont control that function. now I was gonna just modify the stock harness to extend any plugs that needed it because of the way the IM sits in the bay compared to the B16's. so I dont know how much the positioning differs as far as the IACV, IAT,...

now about those secondaries, are they actually like a secondary as where they open for ADDITIONAL air flow or do they switch the air flow from long runners to short runners? if they just redirect air then seems running the long runners and never having the butterflies activate, it wont be a big problem, but if it is for more airflow at high RPMS and not just for a bit better flow I dont think I should do that.

eventualy he wants to buy a GSR tranny but I try to tell him to just stay with the tranny hes got cuz it shifts perfect and a GSR isnt gonna be geared any better. but Im sure he'll eventually get the P72(I think thats the code for the GSR) to control the IM and Ill run the wires for him since I screwed up. but just need to know the negative affects of not running the functioning secondaries.

and that this is the only diff between the B16 and B18. they are both OBD1 so thats no problem.

also great thing about this, all I have to do is drive the engine from my house when it gets here to his house down the road, drop it in and I get the B16. I havet torn it down but I think the heads good. I know a rod busted or something though, didnt bust through the block anywhere but on the bottom of the oil pan there is a hole when looking through the 2 pipes on the header collector, maybe 3/4" and yopu can see a big metal something, looks like a rod laying right there. and I got a B20 out in the garage that didnt sell so I hope to have a nice little project soon as well.

why not have him use the b16a IM or get an aftermarket one? Sorry I know that doesn't answer your questions at all, it's just a thought.

cuz AFAIK the B16 IM doesnt mount to the B18C1 head without modification. I have read that a couple times that the ITR IM bolts onto the B16a but not the C1 unless you modify the bolt pattern, which I dont think hes gonna want me to do

I just called him and got the ok to buy a ECU off ebay, but im debating on maybe hjis head/IM on the B18C1 block, and maybe buying a ITR IM wiht the money and not the ECU, or just save his money and use the current IM as well.

but I wanna know what the effects are of no IAB and how much work it is to hok up, seems like it would only be 2 or 3 wires to the control valve from the ECU, maybe only one like the vtec silinoid has, but not sure. also wanna know if theres any other diff sensros which Im pretty sure there isnt. If I can find out before 7 tonight I can still order it again(got my order dropped for now)

Now that I think about it, I think you're right; think I read something about the bolt pattern being different.
I'm not sure what exactly it would do if you didn't hook up the secondary. But there should be only 3 wires to hook up (with the right ECU to support it of course). 1 Power and 2 to the ECU. http://www.allmotorhonda.com/techpages/B-sereies-wiring.htm - Bottom 3 wires on the list.
