What is the difference between 12-point bolts and hex bolts? How much points has a hex bolt? 6 or 16 ?

I'm planing to buy "long block kit" from PAW catalog.This kit includes :"screw-in studs and guide plates". What is that??
Is that like :"engine bolts kit" from other catalogs or what is it??

What means "guide plates"?what are they??

hex bolts have 6 difference in the two is the number of sides (in tight places 12 points are easier to use because you can get a wrench on it easier, in my experience anyway)

screw in studs and on the head where the rockers bolt in, there are press-in and screw in. Usually engine bolt kits include all bolts like connecting rods, main caps, etc..etc... if you get a long block you should already be getting those.

Guide plates are used with the push rods, they make sure the push rod stays straight and lines up with the lifter and rocker arm.

I attend to order 388 cu.in. "STROKER" Chevy small block. this engine has 400 crankshaft. Which harmonic balancer do you recomend, but has to fit on crankshaft and not too expencive(Summit,PAW)?


Does the harmonic balancer has to be balanced with crankshaft or is that not necessary?

PAW catalog says: "CYLINDER HEADS - Our 76cc open chamber cylinder heads are completely remanufactured with all new valves, bronze guides, seals, heavy duty locks, retainers and springs matched to your cam. "
Does that mean that i need screw-in studs and guide plates or not?If yes, why?

Does the long block kit include engine bolts kit or should i check that out at PAW?

Is it possible to get an email of PAW company or a contact person?
