Re: data collecting recorders
I have heard of this before, it is stored in the computer and consists of info gathered by all the sensors in the car, but the story I heard said that it started in the mid 90's and was only in higher end cars and slowly increased until around 2000 when 90% of new cars had it. which means it is in far less cars than the 65% stated in the article.

Re: data collecting recorders
I saw on TV about a year ago where the first person being charged with vehicle manslaughter using the computer as evidence was in court.
The computer showed his speed, and the fact that he never hit his brakes, even after the crash.
Like blazee sayes they can't be in all our trucks. I wouldn't know what year they started putting them in the S-10.
Until the cost of anilizing the computer becomes affordable they'll probably only use the readout for big accidents.
You can actually use the info to prove that you weren't speeding if you figure that a cop is targeting you

Re: data collecting recorders
Oh In BC Canada someone recently proved that all the radar's were out 25% and this was probably done through these computers (lousy ripp off theiving governments)

Re: data collecting recorders
True, but let's not blame them for catching people speeding though.
they don't even look at people unless they are doing 15km/hr over the speed limit here.
If they pull you over, you know you were over that.

Re: data collecting recorders
i think thats about 10 mph correct? (i know, typical ignorant american bastard) and you must be doing that or greater to be pulled over here, but it would have realy pissed me off if the cop that gave me my one and only ticket added a few km/h or mph, which gives me more points and a larger fine, i was right on the edge of being in the next bracket, I agree with you totaly saying it was my fault for speeding as it is anyones fault for doing anything illegal. It's just that i would rather have law enforcement have the equipment to give me the correct punishment for my crime and not something more severe.

Re: data collecting recorders
Since every single radar in British Columbia was proven to be 25% out it must have been because they were deliberatly set that way. if even 5% were out that much it might have been a coincidence, but every one was proven to be out the same amount.
Our present government has literally told the cops to do nothing more than enforce traffic violations as a form of revenue collecting, and out preimer is a drunk that probably buys his way out of every impared charge except in Hawaii

Re: data collecting recorders
these "black boxes" are in a vehicle that you OWN. The government is using YOUR property to prosesute YOU??
Well, here goes:
Attention all Aurora Police: On February 1st, I was going down the 3800 block of S. Tower Rd at 9:45pm and was traveling 80mph in a 40mph zone, also I don't remember using my turn signal while switching lanes.
Is that any different that the black box???

Re: data collecting recorders
You forgot to tell them that you weren't wearing a seat belt, and you were drinking a root beer at the time
