New starter/solenoid needed?

I'm having a huge problem with my camaro. One time the battery was dead, and I had to jump the car. Well, it took a while to start, and it really took a lot of cranking, which I think really depleted the starter. Well it finally started up fine. But then, after driving the car for about an hour, I stopped to get gas. After I get gas, the car won't even crank or turn. All that I get when I turn the key is a slight dimming of the lights, no sound whatsoever. So I pushed the car to a side road, and left it there overnight. I come back the next day, when the engine is cold, and it starts right up no problem. This continues to happen. When the engine is cold, I have no problems, but once it warms up, it won't start. Now it's beginning to not start up at all, even when cold. Any ideas as to what it is, and how much it'll cost to fix?

Re: New starter/solenoid needed?

Which engine do you have and its a 87 right?. I would bet money on it being a over heated starter but ground/short issue also sometimes start to show themselves in hot rather than cold engine condition. Cost really depends on which motor you have but a starter is not a real hard thing to replace and if you don't mind going second hand or rebuilt you can usually find one pretty cheap. I once bought a start for one of my 350 TPI vettes (a rebuilt unit) with a 1 year warrany for like 20 bucks. So they are pretty cheap. Good Luck.
