stereo installation

Has anyone installed a aftermarket deck and found it difficult in finding an installation kit. Also is it necassary to remove the entire dash to get to the stereo? Any help would be awesome. Oh ya by the way its a 97 s10 blazer.

Re: stereo installation

Not hard to find a install kit at all.You have to take the plastic trim off that is above your pedals so you can get to the screws that hold on the trim that goes around your cd player.Look for 7mm screws, there is a bunch of them.Once you get them all out the trim just pops off.You will also have to disconnect some plugs.

Re: Re: stereo installation

Bestbuy has the trimplate. i think i paid 16 if i recall correctly. i have a 97 also dude. its a little tricky. what you are going to need is

Install Trimplate
wiring harness. its worth the extra money.
Antenna adapter.

Your dash trim pulls right off after you take out two #2 phillips screws that are above your speedo. theres a couple of quick disconnects for your headlight switches too. then as he said a dozen or so 7mm screws holding everything in there. If you lived in the kc area i would do it for ya. well have fun w/ it.

Re: stereo installation

Also note, your new deck will sound like crap seeing the aftermarket deck is made for 4 ohm speakers and the stock speakers are 6 ohm.

It won't affect anything. The 6 ohms will just eat up a little more power,so to speak. In my Geo it had 2 8ohm speakers(factory) in the rear panels and I had them hooked up to my amp and they sounded good.I couldn't even believe it myself. In the long run they got replaced though.

Re: stereo installation

Ummm....

Yes it will, the deck will not be able to push the right power through a higher resistance rating speaker.

Result: Less volume

Re: Re: Re: stereo installation

It won't hurt the stereo. You can go up in ohms. For example,a deck made to push 4 ohms can also push 6 ohms or 8 ohms, with a little power loss as you go up.The same stereo can't push a load of 2 ohms though. As this is closer to a direct short,so to speak. This also would cause harm to player.

Re: stereo installation

True, but I never stated it would hurt anything.

I am just letting him know the performance might not be as good as he will expect.

Re: stereo installation

Compared to the stock system he will be impressed, unless he gets a really crap system.

Actually, maybe not.

With the higher resistance speakers, he might actually have less performance from the new headunit.

I would say if he got a real piece of shit head unit that would be true.Chances are that he has something better than the stock or why would he change it?Of course some people are strange.

No.I have seen people take out a good headunit and replace it with a piece of shit(Roadmaster, remember those)that even sounded like shit, but because it was aftermarket they thought it was something good.
