Question should I buy?

Hi all, I am new to this forum. Unfortunately about a week ago my honda civic got trashed in an accident and i now am in the market to buy a new car. I found a 95 sidekick with 114k miles on it for $1000 and i think i can talk the woman down to $800. The guy who is selling it for the woman is my mechanic, and isnt getting anything out of the deal so i know he doesnt have any alterior motives (I hope). The woman selling it complained that it stalled. From what i gather she seems like a spoiled yuppie that doesnt know how to drive stick (or how much her car is actually worth). So far the mechanic says there is nothing wrong with it. Im going to test drive it tomorrow. Basically, im wondering if i should buy it if it runs well. Just a few other things to keep in mind- Im a student and commute about 50 mi/ day, and absolutely loved my honda. Any help would be great. Also, are there any problems that Sidekicks are notorious for? So far I've gathered that they're loud, and a little underpowered. Thanks!!

Re: should I buy?

my sidekick isn't loud but it is underpowered but mine is an auto so the one you are looking at should be a little faster. from what i have heard is that if you do regular tune ups the engine should be good for 200,000 if not more. one thing is that the top hinge of the driver side door likes breaking. but i would say go ahead and buy it. if you get it for 800 it is almost half of what i paid for my 96 about a year ago

Thanks! I did end up buying the sidekick and trust me I have already had a lot of fun with it (I already took it offroading twice and I've only had it registered for 3 days ) I really appreciated the input and thought about it when i made my decision.
