1999 Escort Fuel Pump Removal

I am trying to get the fuel pump out. I removed the lock ring and
got the top cover off. I thought the pump would just lift out but
it seems to be fastened in somehow. Any ideas?

If you have the locking ring off the pump should come out easily. Two things are possible, the pump is rusted in or the gasket is just stuck. Try prying gently around the flange and see if it will come out. If not then tap it gently with a rubber mallet or brass hammer. Also, the fuel lines must be removed before the pump will come out.

Some Ford cars have the pump actually "latched" to the bottom of the tank. With a flashlight, look down at the pump and see if there are release tabs. If there aren't, try rotating it counter-clockwise, the focuse twist in and I can't remember which had the locking tabs you squeezed.
