Stanza Manual Transmission filler location (Please Help)

I need to locate the transmission fluid fill location on my 1992 Nissan Stanza (manual tranny), and I was wondering if anyone could give me a good idea of where it is located at. I mean obviously it comes off the transmission, but do I have to be underneath the car to get at it, or is it accessible from the engine bay? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Stanza Manual Transmission filler location (Please Help)

If you don't have an owners manual which would show you this, try to get one, it'll help a lot in the long run to find small stuff like this. Anyway, get under the car. Find the transaxle. Look for a DRAIN plug, whicj should be a steel plug about 3/4" in diameter with a 1/2" SQUARE recess in it. Start looking higher up on the transaxle. On many cars there will be a fill tube hole with an inserted dipstick with a handle, like the handle on the dipstick tube for engine oil. This would be the easiest way to add oil, if there is one. It may be hidden under the air filter housing and battery tray. That's where my wife's is hiding on her '88 Stanza Wagon. If you can't find any such animal, start looking for another pipe plug, similar to the drain plug, but higher up.

Re:Stanza Manual Transmission filler location (Please Help)

Thanks, I think I located it - I tried to find a 1990 to 1992 stanza manual around town, but everyone carries the one up to the 89 stanza. I know the engine is different in some ways, this is why I could not locate the tranny fill location. Anyway, thanks again!

Re: Stanza Manual Transmission filler location (Please Help)

You're quite welcome. Actually I was thinking of the original owners type manual, the one that comes with a new car, but if you want to work on your own car much at all, a far better bet would be to locate a Nissan FACTORY Service Manual. They are specific to a particular model year and will have all of the wiring diagrams, computer diagnostic codes, and much more information in more exhaustive detail than that to be found anywhere else, including in the Haynes and Chilton's repair manuals. They are NOT cheap, but they do show up on eBay and can be found through USED booksellers. We try to get one for any vehicle that we intend to keep for long, (which basically is every one), because I do about 98% of the maintenance myself..
