well looking to buy a wrecked chevette and put in a older 305 or 350 small block and am wondering what has to be changed and what is a pain to do (firewall clearence and trans clearence) and engine mounts?

will the rear end hold? or should i get a stronger one? what would fit under the car?

Might jump over to www.chevytalk.org and do a search for chevetteroadwarrior or crw user name. This is a guy in So.Ohio who had just what you're planning. Pretty head turning car too. Don't know if the guy is still active but you might find his Email address. Pretty nice guy from what I saw.

nope cant do that wont work and i just want to know about if it fits with just minor mods (no redoing the whole engine compartment)

Anytime you attempt this type of engine swap the is considerable time energy and money spent with disappointing results. there is NO easy way to do this type of swap

um, acually it CAN be done.

They made a chevette into a race car (origional panels and frame) and it has a small block in it

Probably be ahead to find an aluminum head v6 to put in it, but after all is said and done, you still have a Chevette. I'd sure rather put my time and money in a V8 S10 or something like that.

shouldn't be major headaches. don hardy (i think) stuffed in a 4.3, the 90* v6, with some minor (or no) tuning of shock towers; since the 'vette had an L4, the v8 should fit no sweat. you will have issues with hood clearance on pre-77s; hardy recommended the '77-9. i'd use v8 monza/clone front springs & brakes. the th-180's a bit weak for a v8; i'd swap in the -200 out of a '78-88 g-body (monte/clone), & use the GN Regal shift kit. 10-bolt is strong enough, unless you're going nutz on power; recall, it was behind the 280hp GNR. given the choice, i'd fit a 5.3 or buick 215 or 350, instead, rather than the heavier sb chevy.
