Belt Chirping After Rainstephiemullen 01-27-2005, 12:39 AM I had to drive through almost what you could call a flood today. The water was definitely high enough to splash alot of the underbody of the car, but not high enough to get to the engine and do damage. I noticed that after going through the water, my timing belt is chirping. Could this be because it got wet? If so, will it stop when it dries? I had this problem once before and it stopped chirping. I don't know if it was from the same thing. Thanks. phantastic1 01-27-2005, 12:38 PM i think you mean your accessory belts or a serpentine belt(single belt). if you see a couple of belts that drives your alternator, power steering, and a/c....check the condition of it...if it looks ok...just tighten them up a little. if you have a serpentine belt (single belt that drives alt, p/s, & a/c) you may need to replace it...since it has a auto tensioning pulley...there's really no way to make it any tighter. stephiemullen 01-27-2005, 02:18 PM Well, I think the belt dried off cause when I got in the car this morning, the chirp was gone. I think it just got wet and needed to air out. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
