OK this subject can actually be used for importing just about any vehicle in to the US so any mods that want to post it into somewhere else please feel free too. I was interestead in importing a Skyline so I'll place it here to start.

What I've learned,
After checking the http://www.nhtsa.gov/ website I found that there was a local shop that imported vehicles to the US near where I lived and figured "what the hell can't hurt to ask". The following is the reply I got back, not good news mostly what I expected, but great information was gained from there.

"Thank you for contacting me for your import needs. Unfortunately, I can not help you with the Nissan Skyline. As far as I understand, Motorex in Torrence, CA 310-224-5085 are the only ones that can help you. I have also heard through the grapevine, however, that they are having some problems in getting them certified with the US government. Spacifics, I don't know, but I thought you should be aware.

Let me know if there is any other car that I might be able to help you with. The easier cars are on the Vehicle Eligibility list on the nhtsa web site. EPA is usually a problem though. EPA options: Does the car have a label in the engine compartment that says that it was built to meet US EPA emission standards?? If not, you will need a letter from the manufacturer corp offices (not just a dealer) certifying that it does. If no letter, it needs to be tested and certified by an Independant Comercial Importer who are licensed by the EPA. I am only licensed by the NHTSA, not the EPA. We are associated with a company in New York that is EPA licensed. The EPA fee is approx $5000.00 plus modifications. The main items needed are an OBD2 computer system and a catalytic converter.

Good Luck.

After some looking through I came across this list http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/elig0011.html in here you'll see that they have the Nissan "GTS, GTR" from 1990-1999 listed. My guess is that this is the Skyline and that MotoRex is the dealer that has the approval. Kudos to them:D

Guess the 90-99 approved is why they are having problems bringing in anything 2000 or newer. Not sure why since it's still the R34?!

Oh well if you are interested in importing a car I figured this would be a good start for you.

Good Luck;)
