I am hoping somebody can help me. I have a transmission leak at the rear of the transmission. It is a pretty steady drip and I have replaced the housing seal 4 times now. It still leaks, and now I have a steady oil leak, although not quite as big. Is there anything else I should be replacing besides the housing seal? This is my first experience with Chevy's, so am kind of stuck on what to do next.

If that's where the leak is always coming from make sure that the yoke doesn't have any burrs that could be wearing the seals out quickly (If I'm thinking of the right seal)

Thank you so much. I will check the yoke out. I did have it in my friends repair shop because it wouldn't pass DEQ, and now that you say that I think he did mention that I needed to replace the yoke. It is pretty ridiculous how fast it wears out. Right after I have replaced the seal, it starts dripping again. I could swear it starts right after changing it and not driving it, but I can't recall if I have ever checked it before I have driven it. Thanks again!

Go with what overboardproject said. If you have replaced the seal correctly, then there can really only be one left cause of leaks from that location.........the yoke!

Thank you for the advice! It looks like I will be replacing the yoke this weekend. I am assuming that I am going to have to replace the seal again as well.....?

Your right. It's always a good idea to replace the seal whenever you take something like a yoke out. And a must when you change the yoke altogether.

I was wondering if antifreeze can get into the transmission fluid from a faulty exhaust manifold gasket? I noticed some antifreeze on top of the engine, and am assuming it needs to be replaced. I didn't know if I should start with the yoke, or just go straight to the gasket. I am a pretty intermmediate mechanic, so don't know how much skill that requires. All in all, my question is should I replace the exhaust manifold gasket (if it needs it) and the yoke? I didn't know if this could get into the transmission fluid thus ruining the integrity of the housing seal.

the only way antifreeze can get into the tranny is by pouring it into the dip stick tube or the tranny pump is pulling it in from the radiator ( tranny fluid passes through the radiator for cooling). as far as having antifreeze on the top of the motor i would run the motor to operating temp the check the top radiator hose where it connects to the motor ( thermostat housing ) for leaks. if it is leaking from the hose and the hose is fairly new then romove the hose and clean the thermostat housing up were the hose connects. if it leaking from where the housing connects to the intake then simply remove the housing clean up the intake and thermostat housing where they connect together and put in a new gasket with a little bit of ultra blue on both sides of the gasket.there may be a little bit of unevenness to the aluminium and the ultra blue will seal those spots up.

Thank you so much for the advice! My heater core just went out in the same vehicle (that was fun), and I found some white gooey substance in the radiator. I am pretty sure it is oil. I flushed the radiator with some flush to get it out, and it seems like it is doing okay. I still have to replace the yoke and the seal. I was waiting on the yoke because the dealership was so expensive. Anyway, I appreciate the help and advice. I will try to figure out where the heck the antifreeze is leaking from that is getting on top of the engine. I did replace the hoses when I did the heater core. Hopefully that was it! Thank you again.

Why couldn't this just be the rear output seal?

You don't have to replace the whole yoke.
