06' Viper Coupe v. C6 Z06
I've been itchin to make this comparison for a little while now, so heres my question. Is the Viper SRT10 still worth it? The new Corvette Z06 produces the same HP, 50 less torque, weighs 300lbs less, and will cost much less. Why buy a SRT10, when you could buy a Z06, for less, and get better times?
C6 Z06-
Cost: $62,500 (C&D)- $75,000*
Engine: pushrod 16-valve V-8, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 428 cu in, 7008cc
Power: 500 bhp @ 6200 rpm
Torque: 475 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
Weight: 3150lbs
Zero to 60 mph: 3.8 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 7.7 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 11.7 sec @ 127 mph
Viper SRT10 Coupe-
Cost: $86,000
Engine: pushrod 20-valve V-10, aluminum block and heads, port fuel injection
Displacement: 505 cu in, 8285cc
Power: 500 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Torque: 525 lb-ft @ 4200 rpm
Weight: 3450lbs
C/D-estimated performance:
Zero to 60 mph: 3.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 8.5 sec
Standing 1/4-mile: 12.1 sec @ 121 mph
All stats are C&D
*There is some arguement over the price, supposedly some "GM insider" hinted at a price as high as around $75,000, and C&D estimated $62,500. I tend to side closer to C&D since when you look at the difference in performance between the C5 Coupe and C6 Coupe, for about the same price, I'd say adding $10,000 to the Z06 sounds about right. Either way, the Z06 will be cheaper then the SRT10 Coupe.
My vote goes to the C6 Z06

Re: 06' Viper Coupe v. C6 Z06
I'm gonna say the Z06 is a much better buy, and it's what I'd buy given that kind of money, but the SRT-10 still has some appealing qualities: much more exclusivity, much more modern (though not necessarily better) underpinnings, and a heftier helping of torque. The Z06 feels like a race car with a muscle car engine, whereas the Viper SRT-10 feels like a muscle car with a race car suspension.

What do you want? Speed? With that kind of money, I'd get a Honda Civic Hatch and mod the shit out of it. I'll be breaking into the 8 or 9's all day for the 1/4 mile.
But back to topic, I think that I'll go with the Vette.

All..day...what you think 62k last forever? What about tires? Maintenance? Track fees? Pit crew? Trailering the car places?
Anyways...my point is...you cant run 8/9's all day w/62k

The Z06 will probably take it in acceleration even though the Viper's can run 11.77 as stated in Motor Trend, haven't seen much faster than that though. The coupe version of the SRT-10 isn't any lighter which is bullshit and power is the same. It's chassis is stiffer though so that'll aid to handling, like the Viper needs any better handling. So I wouldn't say that specs for the coupe would be far off of the convertible. Anyways I've given up fighting for the Viper, I'll vote for it, but the Vette would probably be the better buy. I do think that prices for the Z06 will be in the mid 70's though because of all the different things it has on it compared to a normal C5, other than frame and interior I dont think much is the same.

No way. On top of what nissanspdr said, you're still driving a civic, which you won't be able to resell for anywhere near the 62K you put into it, plus it'll sound like ass, probably won't be street legal, won't have a factory warranty, probably won't have any amenities like power steering, A/C, or even a stereo. no thanks.

I would take the ZO6. You can use them as daily drivers. They prolly get about 2 times if not more the fuel ecomney. I think it will be faster aswell. I think the vette looks a lot better, and it is a ton cheaper. Vette for me

If anyone mentions the word Civic again in this thread it's locked. Stay on topic people.

Civic.
If we were comparing the previous generations of the two cars, then I'd choose the Viper. However in this instance, a Z06 looks tastier.

Re: 06' Viper Coupe v. C6 Z06
vette for me. much more value for the money you pay. even if they were the same price, i'd still opt for the vette. but i agree with jimster, the old viper had more appeal to me than the current one.

Re: 06' Viper Coupe v. C6 Z06
Well it's my CIVIC right to choose...so I choose the ZO6...the Viper Coupe really let me down...sure honestly...50hp more = 86k? WTF...I'd rather get a 450HP GTS and pay when they were new!!! 75k...this is utter BS...Dodge better get their sh*t str8

The Corvette is the better buy, but right now, the C6 Z06 and Viper Coupe aren't available yet, so perhaps it could change.
Anyways, if the 'Vette goes for $62,000, I'd take it over the Viper, such a difference in cost, Dodge has a lot of homework to do.
But if the 'Vette goes for $75,000, I'm going with the Viper. The Viper has more exclusivity, I would love to drive/own a V10 over a V8 (which don't get me wrong, I love V8's, I have one), and I believe the Viper is more of a headturner to regular people. Wouldn't you think owning a Viper could pick up more chicks (who know little to nothing about cars), than a 'Vette?

I agree w/some of what you say...the Viper is more rare...and the new Vette is not a huge departure from the C5 and neither is the new Viper Coupe a massive overhaul since the previous generation. But as far as the pricing/exclusivity...ppl who can spend 75k can probably also spend 86k...just my
