01 Ignition key programming

I just picked up a new - to me - 01 Civic coupe. It came with one programmed and working ignition key and one key that is not programmed. While I knew there would be some kind of cost to be incurred to get the second key working, I was not prepared for an $85 programming fee and about 1 1/2 hours of time from my local dealer.

It was also missing the owner's manual.

I purchased the car thru a broker who bought the car at auction - so - I have no direct line to the original owner.

Questions -

Can I expect the dealer to be able provide me with the original's owner's contact info via the VIN?

Is the fee asked by the dealer fair and reasonable? If not, any leads for support in the San Fernando Valley?

What is the best place to obtain a comprehensive Workshop Manual beside Helms. They are the best but not the only (I hope).

Does anyone in the LA area have an owner's manual I could take a peek at.

Im in Jersey and we charge 85 to program a key to. If you need anothe one in the future and you have a working key most dealerships have an Ilco machine which actually clones the key and its a lot cheeper.

As for the manuals contact your dealer and they should be able to give you a number were you can order a owners manual and probably a honda manual too.

You are correct. I have got one on order.

Kolbe Honda in Reseda offered to program my extra key for free - but - it was not the same series. So - I just bought a correct series ($40) and they programmed it.

Got an owner's manual and another opener from eBay.

I have no power to the cigarette lighter. There was a plastic piece (looked like the end of a power plug) in the socket. I got that out. The fuse rings out good, there is no power to that station on the fuse block and all of the under hood fuses are good. There are no other outages in the car.

I guess I've got to wait for the wiring diagram to track it down.
