I finally got the blower kit, new TRD. I’ve been reading up a lot on it and talked with one of the engineers at TRD and Boulder Toyota’s Super Mechanic, (best mechanic I’ve ever talked to). I do not intend to make this a screamer, but I drive at high elevations, 5,000 to 12,000 feet. I assume this will get more air into the engine.
Does anyone have any comments about adding the TRD headers and exhaust? The OE muffler is HUGE! I don’t mind the architecture or appearance if the stock exhaust is going to work well at 3400 rpm or less. So how much restriction is truly inherent on the OE exhaust, or muffler? I don’t necessarily like the sound of a loud V-6 either, sounding sort of like a V-8 wannabe. At the very least is there anyone that is familiar with the change in sound between the two exhausts? If so could you describe?
The TRD Engineer warned me that the kit is made and calibrated for the stock intake. Reducing the OE restriction on the intake would goof the calibration up. I was thinking about the Deck Plate modification however. If it doesn’t work just leave the plug in…. One of the articles I read,
http://www.gadgetonline.com/fuel.htm Check out all the mods this guy had to go through…. I assume he just changed too much in the beginning, or maybe? He has a lot of interesting details however. Note also that he has the earlier version of the TRD blower.
Does anyone know if the new or latest version has straight cut gear teeth or helical cut gears?
Any other hints, suggestions or general comments about the blower kit installation are truly welcome, as well as links and suggestions for additional modifications.
