ticking sound

my o4 gp makes a ticking sound under hard acceleration, but only to about 3k rpm then the tick goes away. i only have about 34k miles on it. the only mods are a k&n cone filter replacing the air box

Re: ticking sound

possibly the engine is resonating with some loose part in your car at the specific rpm?

Check your car's octane requirement. Try using a higher octane to eliminate spark knock and induce proper detonation.

Re: ticking sound

may also be something having to do with your AC. Turn your AC off and fan off, and see if that helps. I remember back during the summer in my Grand Am, for some reason when I had the AC on and I would get on it, it would make like a hammering/ticking sound.

i have tried the higher octane but it does not work. could the k&n filter affect the air fuel mixture.it sounds like a bad lifter.

Re: ticking sound

Can we find out, what kind of GT is it. GTP or GT. Only happens under accelation?
Ever raised hood and give it a little gas to see if it happens then?
Kind of hard to say enless we have some of the basic information.

Thanks
