90 accord oil on spark plug wires + trans shift

Just bought a 90 accord , auto, with 142k. Was wondering how serious the problem was if there is oil on the spark plug wire shafts. was told to replace the valve cover gasket. Is that the same as the head gasket ?
Is it expensive ?
ALso the auto trans doesn't shift smoothly, as in , rpm goes up to 3000 before it shifts from 1 to 2 and 2 to3 . For the other gears the shifting is smooth. Is there a sensor that needs to be replaced or fixed ?

Thanks
John

Re: 90 accord oil on spark plug wires + trans shift

yea....you need to change out your valve cover gasket. make sure you ask for the valve cover gasket set...which includes the spark plug gaskets too (these gaskets would be the reason why your getting oil on your sp wires). and no this is not the same as the head gasket. fairly easy job...if you are not to sure of doing it yourself...a local shop should be able to do pretty cheap. shouldn't be more than 30-45mins job. as for the tranny...make sure theres enough fluid. try changing the fluid to see if it makes any difference....if it doesn't i would have a mech check it out.
