Re: auto start
I got an alarm shop to install one in my 2000, they make it look simple, one thing to look out for is the security light staying on after you get in your truck and drive off. It happened to me but took it back to the guys and they changed the spot where they put the resistor and the problem went away

Re: auto start
After having removed my AutoStart system as it was wired incorrectly and I have no need for it here; I don't think I would attempt it myself. Get a professional to do it. If you do attempt it yourself make sure you get the Passlock for your stock security system; as Silveradoman mentioned.

Re: auto start
There are new passlock bypass modules that are much easier to install than the older ones. The older ones required cutting and/or splicing of the very small passlock system wires, the newer modules tap into the passlock system by splicing into the system wire at the DLC(OBD2 port) and should be less problematic

Re: auto start
I donno if this is what you guys are talking about..but when I got my viper alarm installed with the auto start, they forgot to bypass the factory door locks/ theft deturant system. So when I would unlock my doors with the viper, the factory alarm would start going off. I tool it back and they just put in some wire under the dash and now its works fine.

The '99-'02 trucks are a whole lot different than that of the '03-'05. Yes, you can use a bypass via the OBD2 connector to do all kinds of things like pk2, alarm, lock, unlock and such. Take a look www.bypasskit.com
Have a professional shop do this. If you forget to energise both ignition wires, your tranny will self-destruct!

I would recomend to stay away from any aftermarket alarm or auto start. I had one in my 2002 and occaisionally the truck would not start either from the remote or the key. After about 30 minutes it would start with the key. No abnormal indications during this. After it happened several times I had a hunchit had something to do with the autostart/alarm and disconnected the system. No more problems since. I dont think vehicles with the sophisticated electronics today are menat to have stuff added on to it with creating problems

Well, it's not that the newer cars are any harder, actually I think they are easier. But, you have to know what you are doing and use the best parts out there. If all of them were bad, there would be no market. Obviously, there's a big market

Re: auto start
I just had an AutoPage RS610 Remote Start with Door locks installed on my 04 Silverado Z71 Ext cab. It's only been installed a day or two but I love it so far. I feel that it was installed at a quality install shop that uses solder instead of quick connect connectors that may vibrate loose and all that jazz, so I am hoping not to have any problems for a while. The one thing I am noticing right off the bat is the horn is honking when I remote start the truck. The manual tells me this is because my battery is sitting below 11.5volts when the truck starts. There is a bypass for the horn honks but its got me wondering if there is a problem with the unit causing my battery to drain down or if the thing is even right. Maybe my battery is fine. The truck is only 2 or 3 months old. My guess is I will get over what ever is causing this horn honk and continue to have an awesome remote start.
