Is Caprice small or big block?ASJT3 01-18-2005, 03:21 PM Is a stock 1987 caprice engine a small block or a big bock v8? Michel73 01-18-2005, 03:25 PM the 87 caprice has a V8 305 small block. I think there was a V6 as well. Michel ASJT3 01-18-2005, 03:29 PM Thanks for the quick reply! Michel73 01-18-2005, 03:31 PM You're welcome HLandin 01-19-2005, 05:56 PM I think the Caprice was only a big block in the 1960's. I think it was a 454, but it was downsized to a small block I think sometime in the 70's and has been a small block since. So, if you have a stock caprice newer than the late 70's, its a small block. The following year, the cars were "downsized", re-designed with smaller engines available as an option. I have read where GM made this decision back in '72-'73 and the oil crisis helped to speed up the implementation of this. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
