The weirdest thing is happening to the paint on my Chevy Caprice. The paint on just the drivers door is fading to a grey color. No where else on the car is this happening. The rest of the cars paint looks just the way it came out of the factory. It is the strangest thing I have ever scene. What would cause this? I have heard that its faulty paint from the '80's. But on just one door?

Sounds like the door may have been repainted at some time. Even if you bought the car new, it may have had some paint work done on it.

That would make sense. I know the person who bought the car in '81 brand new. He told me that the car has never been painted or had any body work done. I probibly should look at the cars repair history before it was sold brand new. So maybe Chevy or the dealer repainted it with out telling him.

Hopefully something had happend to the car before it was bought new. Then I can probibly go back and sue the dealer or maybe even Chevy. LOL. I'll get a free paint job some how. :devil:

are you sure that your buddy that sold it to you didn't have an accident and have the door cave in or something...then have it repainted without telling you???

That happened with my aunts saab...the front end was crunched before she bought it.. she bought it and was told it was brand new. When she waxed it there were lines in the paint and it discolored...she later found out that it had been wrecked and repainted and fixed without her knowing. She sued the place that sold it to her...got 50,000 from um... don't count on it with an old caprice though ...this was a 2002 Saab Convertible

The same thing with paint fading is happening on my 98 LTZ but it was becuase it had been paint while the dealer had it becuase he put his golf spikes on the roof while getting into the car ( dumb ass) so it was probaly repainted at some time before
