Hello everybody, I have a 1995 Ranger 3.0 V-6 5 speed 110K which recently came up with a trouble code of Po 443. I borrowed a scan tool from friend which came up with, Evap system purge control valve circuit malfunction. After calling the local ford dealer I was told they have this purge valve in stock. My question to anyone is if they have come up with this code, is it worth changing the valve or could it be a vacuum leak associated with all the lines to and from the purge canister, or possibly something else in the whole evap system. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, I'm due for CT emmission soon !!!

P.s. I checked gas cap and cleared the code, it came back.
Thanks, Joe

You should have a schematic label under the hood that shows the layout of the evap system. Trace out the purge line/circuit to see if anything is obviously plugged/broken. The soleniod valves do commonly corrode & hang up.

i had same code after an accident. mine is a 2000 so it might be different but it was a vacume valve on drivers side fender that cracked open and was leaking. check hoses to and from this valve. it has a diafram in it so that could also be bad.

Thanks for input I was actually stumped because after examining underhood and the VECI label underhood I was not sure wether or not the valve I need to change is the round cylindrical type mounted on the plastic fender well or the other smaller solenoid type valve mounted upstream closer to the power steering reservoir. The haynes manual does not describe these two in much depth, therefore I want to change the correct one. Thanks for the advice. Joe

the dealer has an updated assembly containing both the sensor, valve, and vacuum line
