'02 SE-R (Spec-V) Won't start.

My '02 Spec-V won't start. It's been choking to start recently, but now it won't at all. It will turn over and try but the iginition will never fully engage. My check-engine light came on when it started acting up. Also, my tach is dead -- it won't register any RPM's. The car gets power (i.e. radio, clock, AC, etc.) but the engine will not ignite? Any ideas?

Re: '02 SE-R (Spec-V) Won't start.

My car has done the exact same thing four times. The first time we towed it to the dealer and it started right up for them. They told us not to drive it short distances becasue it will flood. The next three times I pumped the gas and turned the key untill it started. I have had it in to the dealer three times and they cant find anything wrong with it. If anyone knows what is wrong please help.

I would hesitate to think that a newer car like an 02 SE-R would have fuel system problems but it sounds to me like it could be either fuel pump, injectors and or some sort of relay between the two. If the electronics in your car work, it isn't anything to do with the battery and if your starter was dead the car wouldn't turn over at all. Of course, you can't really tell without an accurate diagnostic by a repair shop. If none of these are the case and the problems lies in the wiring, you might be in for a long, expensive trip, hopefully not. Good luck.

fuel pump

I had the same problem with my 2002 SE-R. It's the fuel pump. After the car sits for a while the fuel pump loses pressure. Each time you attempt to start, the pump gains a little pressure so after a while it will start. The longer the vehicle sits, the longer it'll take to start.
