Need Help Diagnosing the Problem

I own a 91 Honda Accord EX, with the Auto Tran.

When i start the car up it idles fine, but when i give it gas, the RPM's increase however it is slow to respond in power. I can give it a bit of gas and barely notice any response. Once the car gets warmed up a little it responds normally. I have had it die at a light once within the past few months.

No Check engine lights have come on, and nothing else is suggesting a problem. However very recently it has started to surge a little on freeway driving like its getting gas and then missing gas very quickly almost to where i can't notice it.

Just curious if anyone knows what it might be.

Might just be time for a tuneup...it could be spark plugs...on the other hand it could be tranny-related.
I'd change the fuel filter, plugs, check the wires, and dump in some stp fuel injector cleaner and see if it improves.

Or it could be because your driving a 91' Accord EX, I'd suggest an immediate purchase of a 2006 McLauren F1. That should fix all your starting problems.

Ok now it has shown another problem. At higher speeds, the transmission is boosting the rpms a slight bit, maybe 200 or 300 rpms for a split second, then returns to normal. That happens every 5 or 6 seconds on a regular basis. I feel the car accelerate and then decelerate for those split seconds only it happens over and over again.

Take a look at your transmission fluid. Is it still red or starting to turn black. At the proper level? When was it changed last? Maybe the first thing is to change the transmission fluid and see if that changes things.

Black fluid and a burnt smell is a sign of worn clutches in the transmission. Which could be the cause of it slipping. Changing the fluid is a possible cheap fix.
