Re: Mr2 turbo vs WRX

As great as the MR2's potential is, I'll give this one to the WRX, simply because it's newer and has a lot more aftermarket support here in North America.

since its the non sti i would choose the mr2... way more sporty... mid engine, rwd, 2 seater, and imo it looks a lot better too

Re: Mr2 turbo vs WRX

As much aftermarket support the WRX has, the MR2 turbo still is one amazing ride...looks are gorgeous and reminds of a lil Ferrari, the motor is really stout and responds well to mods and is really reliable, and handling wise...well it's tricky at times since it's MR but rewarding in the hands of a good driver...

A buddy of mine has a MR2 and he does AMAZINGLY at autoX's...how's 5th Nationally at the SCCA Solo II Nat'l Championships sound? Yeah...it's that good.

Thats a hard one... i think i would go with the MR2 Turbo, just becasue its smaller, and sportier.

The problem is, 90% of drivers will be able to go a lot faster in the WRX. Unless I know that this guy has been to a performance driving school and has at least a year of experience in road racing, I'd have to recommend the WRX.

yes the wrx will be easier to drive faster, but i be bet that a MR2 will be faster, and it doesnt' take much to make a MR2 faster then a stock WRX. it would require a upgraded turbo for a WRX to run a low 13 sec quarter mile, but a MR2 can do it with a stock turbo, plus it will have waaaay more top end. a MR's take off is compariable to the WRX's. and it will just walk away from it on the highway.

Re: Mr2 turbo vs WRX

That's true, the MR layout offers just as much grip as the AWD layout, without any loss in power or fuel economy. But still, give an average driver a WRX and an MR2 and tell them to drive at the limit, and the MR2 will be in the dirt on the first quick hairpin, whereas the WRX rewards such tactics as late braking.

So what happens when he gets good and experienced? Will he wish he had the MR2 Turbo b/c he's getting beat at HPDE's?

The MR2 turbo. It has a better power to weight ratio(obviously) then the WRX. It is also better balanced.

Re: Mr2 turbo vs WRX

ive got an MR2 (JDM Turbo) it's the only car thats ever intimidated me, but theres no way i'd swap it for a subaru. The car launches brilliantly for a RWD, DEFINATELY comparible to an AWD rex, and when you consider that launching doesn't involve dumping the clutch at redline with a weak gearbox the way you have to with a rex, chances are i'll be able to do it a lot more without problems. The handling is supurb, it goes exactly where you want it to, the only problem is when you don't know where you want it to go, if you are not completely familiar with the patch you're driving, or if there is a sudden change in situation you are much more likely to loose it, or go slower, in an MR2. I've seen a guy in a road race come round a corner in a subaru, completely screw his line and drive out of the corner along the grass at the outside of the road as if he was still on tarmac, if that was an MR2, it would have been a spectacular rear end first crash. As a track car therefore i have to favour the MR2, corners and conditions are visible and predictable, so you can get your line right and drive the car the way it needs to be driven HARD!

standard, the MR2 is faster in predictable conditions.
modified, the car is much faster. the 3s-gte puts out big horsepower with very few problems, hows 745rwhp on stock rods? the ej20 has trouble with anything over about 500hp.
