W8 Jetta
Volkswagen should have out a jetta with a 300hp W8 powerplant very soon.
This car is going to KICK SOME ASS!!! I mean, its fairly small, with a big engine. This is going to give BMW's a run for their money, for a lot less of it.
I cant wait for it.

Wow. I have some friends with Jettas, and surprisingly they all have tons of problems with the cars. Usually Volkswagen has great cars, but these guys' are lemons.

It is based on the golf, so it is related to tons of stuff, even the TT. Lemons exist, and you can only ask for a full or partial refund, or a trade.

This really doesn't belong in the W* forum, but VW actually gave me all my money back for my Jetta. I loved the car, but it was in the shop too many times in under 12 months so I wrote VW and they gave me everything. They were going to give me a new car, but didn't have any with leather so they gave me money - including the bank fees. I would have bought another, but I found two other people in my area who had their cars replaced, a person who had a new engine put in, etc and got a bit squeamish.
Back to the w8, that would be awesome. Will they change to a RWD? FWD cars today can probably handle the power and I have read they are putting it in the Passat which is FWD so I guess the RWD comment was not well though out.

It'll probably be AWD.
They have been testing it in Europe (I have a pic in a magazine). It had a huge wing, and looked neat. I think it will be a really good car, kinda like a WRX or EVO (not really, for that we will need the Skoda Octavia)

IN two years, VW comes out with the Passat W12... its supposed to be two 6s... with around 3 or 4.5 hundred horsepower. Thats what I heard... probably a lie, but someone should go check that out and see if thats whats going on.

First off (not to sound like a know-it-all or an @$$h*le), two banks of 6 is a "V"-12 (which I doubt they'd ever squeeze into a dub, and certainly not a FWD). A W-12 would be three banks of 4 cylinders (I'm sure you just made a typo), but to say that it would make 300-450 hp is probably a reasonable assumption. On that same topic, I haven't heard anything about VW dropping a 12 into anything... but it would be awesome. I hope your source wasn't smokin' something that day. I'd love to see a VW with any kind of 12 in it.
I first heard about the W-8 Passat about 2+ years ago, but I haven't heard anything about a Jetta getting an 8 at all. After thinking about it, wouldn't you agree that the handling of either would be greatly compromised? I'm sure the Hp/Weight ratio is going to be great, but I doubt that (without MAJOR suspension mods) it would be what everyone expects. These cars sound (to me) like their going to be screamers in a straight-line, but lack everywhere else.
As far as it being an AWD, I haven't heard anything about that either, but that would put the handling on a whole new playing field anyways, so I guess it has its ups and downs.
Overall, I'd have to say nay to the W-8 cars. Just doesn't seem like something I'd want to drive. I like a car that's well-rounded - plenty of punch when you need it, light enough that you don't have to fight it in a curve, and last but certainly not least, $omething good on ga$! (which I'm sure would turn into a problem with 8's or 12's). Though, if the price is only around $27,000, I think it'll be plenty of bang-for-the-buck. Like I said... plenty of ups and downs.
As far as Jetta lemons go (And I dunno about the new ones, but I've seen a LOT of Passat lemons new and old), my Jetta just turned over 200,000 miles (two days ago), and it's still going strong, and I know it's had a rough life, but has never been rebuilt, or had any other kind of major work done on it. I may give it a rebuild for Christmas, or I may just wait til next summer so I have an excuse to ride the crotch-rocket everywhere for a while.
BTW, Chris... I like the signature... 'You can live in a car, but you can't drive a house'! Words to live by; especially when the g/f kicks you out b/c you've spent more time with the car than you have with her!
Drag-on
PS: sorry this post was so long! Just got up on my little soap-box and went to town here!

I haven't heard of a W8 Jetta coming, but I know the R32 Golf is coming and VWoA is considering making a Jetta variant seeing as the Jetta far outsells the Golf in the US (the exact opposite of European sales where they can't give away Jettas/Boras). The R32 has a 3.2 liter VR6 making 241 horsepower with the 6 speed and all-wheel-drive. The arrival of the WRX and upcoming Evo 8 convinced VW that they needed to jump into the fray! I just wonder what the next Jetta, due in 2004, will look like. I hope it's more evolutionary than revolutionary.
The big VW's will be arriving next June. The Phaeton will have a 420hp W12 engine feeding an AWD setup. This Mercedes S-class size car will sticker at about $66K US.
As for the BMW 330, a GLI or GTI with the 24v VR6 will smoke one as they are now!!
