ssr's on stock xterra?

xterra or die

I am thinking of putting ssr's on my 2001 X. Is that a stupid thing to do on a stock truck? What size would best fit? Also like xterrains by pro comp. Are the stock Aluminum rims 15 by 7?

you could probably manage 31x10.5x15 on a stock truck with mild torsion lift if any. yes they will fit on stock 15x7 wheels. Xterrians are a directional tire(i think). you have to have 2 spare tires one for each side, unless you have a nonmatching spare.

Schlud from PNWX and moderator of this forum runs 31X10.50's on his truck. He ran them with stock suspension.

In most cases the stock wheels are the best offset for the Xterra. Changin to aftermarket wheels will more than likely cause rubbing.

Not exactly stock. I had HD torsion bars, and 2" shackles in the rear. Of course I had an ARB and Winch up front too, so maybe that evened out a bit. The 31" SSR's run large, measuring at 31.5" and compounded by large lugs that extend pretty far out from the tire, you will get rubbing in the back rear wheel when stuffing the tire offroading. I ripped a chunk out of my fuel line cover (common for lots of people running large tires) and have some rub points in the front wheel well. Nothing terrible, but you'll get rubbing stock.

Swamper SSR's rock offroad, but my experience has been they're a bitch to balance and aren't ideal if you commute with them as your only tire. After putting in my 3" suspension lift, a set of BFG 32" MT's are probably my next tire when the SSR's wear out.

You might want to consider a set of 31" BFG MT/KO's. Wqbang has a set and is very happy with them. Or maybe the Interco Truxus.

I have the 31x10.5x15 TrXus M/T's and had them mounted to both the stock and AR 767 rims. I have a stock suspension set up (for another week or so) and have had no problems with either rim. I had to trim the flaps for the tires but I also made them removable for off-roading. The only rubbing you will get with these tires are the inner most part of the mud flap and with the ARB I have a bit of rub under compression on the driver side.

I believe Pikachu from MAXC was/is running 32x11.50 SSRs, though it was never a comfortable fit. Last I heard he was looking at the 34x10.50 Swamper LTB (after some sawzall treatment), yikes!

Despite the name, Xterains aren't a good choice for the Xterra because they run too wide. I think the 31" Xterain only comes in a 31X12.50.

Pikachu also ripped the crap out of his wheel well with those 32's because there wasn't a lift available back in 2000.

In the summer I run the 31x10.5x15 and SSR and I have been very happy with them. They do run a little loud but I don't mind the noise (more of a hum).

The tires work great off road, but as others have mentioned are heavy and can be hard top balance.

I think that I will stick with the SSR for my next set of tires. If not them I think that I would look at the BFG MT/KM

Haven't seen 'em in person, but from everything I've heard the Xterrains run very small as compared to most tires. IIRC, there is an X owner running the 33x12.50s that said they measured out to around a 32x11.50. Again, not sure on that, but I'm almost positive they run very small.

You're right though, the only sizes I've ever seen listed are 31x12.50, 33x12.50 and 35x12.50.

Good point. Pro Comps run small. I am running 31X10.50 Pro Comp all terains and they are not a true 31 inches.

According to Pro-Comp, the 33x12.50s are 32.4" x 12.6" (10.1" tread width). More info at Pro-Comp Xterrain (http://www.procomptires.com/xterrain.html) .

All the pro-comps run small, but the mud terrain model runs especially small.

But do they run smaller than advertized ? A 31 inch MT is 30.2 according to Pro Comp. Are they actually smaller than that ? If not then is there any reason to believe a 33 inch xterrain is actually a 31 ?

My point is that pro comp tires are smaller than industry average for the same sidewall size (actual numbers). It is deceiving. Why pay 33" tire prices for a 32" tire? What is the point other than being able to claim running a "33 inch" tire?
