I think this is driver's race...it's too close to call...

I wouldnt give either a huge advantage if it's straightline or even road course...they are both very capable

It is a driver's race.

horse shit, 350z all the way. it only makes 50 more hp and 50 more lbs of tq. BTW they didn't start the 350z til 2003.

Power is useless without a good driver. Cruddy driver can have all the power in the world and still lose because he/she does not know how to use it.

Re: bmw m3 e36 v nissan 350z

well, this is car comparisons not driver comparisons. put the same driver in both cars and he'll perform better in the Z. i have vids on my computer of a 3.5L 2k2 maxima beating an M3.

1995 M3
3.0 I6 making 240 hp, 225 lbs/ft tq and weighing 3180 lbs rwd 5 speed manual

2003 350Z
3.5L V6, 287 hp, 275 lbs/ft tq weighing 3224 lbs rwd 6 speed manual

The M is a solid performer, but its also eight years older. Given that and the 350's superior hp and torque I don't the M will be able to hang for long.

Those 50 HP doesnt mean the 350Z is going to squash the M3...remember the M3 did it w/240HP and it was UNDERRATED from the factory...so it's probably even still

Well guys, your thinking American E36 M3, and the origional poster is from London (check his profile), meaning he isn't talking about the 240hp engine that you all know. The 1992-1995 E36 M3 in Europe had 285hp, and the 1995-1998 M3 EVO had 321hp.

If its an M3 EVO, it should smash the 350z. Those things run with E46 M3s. A regular euro S52 M3 should be closer, but I'd still give the edge to the E36 in a straight line.

On a track, I'd say even a US spec E36 should be able to win against the 350z. You guys may remember the "best handling car over $30,000" comparison that C&D did, and the E36 M3 beat out the NSX, Boxster, 911, Viper, Corvette, Supra TT, F355, and some others I believe.

I like the 350z, but it isn't as quick as the Euro M3.

actually unless the E36 M3 is faster around a track then the E46 i don't think the E36 is faster then the Z33 Z.

its proven in 3 sources, then a track model 350Z laps either as fast, or faster then a E46 M3.

in road and track, the 350Z lapped faster
in best motoring international, the 350Z lapped faster
in Top Gear, the 350Z lapped the same time

so in those 3 sources, the 350Z is either equal to or greater then the E46 M3. which makes it greater then the E36 M3.
