Unhappy manufacture alarm

I have a 93 Passat VR 6 which came with a factory alarm installed. When I purchased the vehicle this summer, I was only given the Valet key. Therefore the alarm (it seems) can not be activated nor deactivated by the key. The alarm a couple months ago activated itself when we were trying to solve a fuse issue (power windows decided not to work and an ignition relay was tempermental) but we were able to disconnect the battery and that seemed to solve the problem till this morning when I went to start my car and was startled to have my alarm go off. I tried to disconnecting my battery (repeatedly) to reset it but this did not solve the problem. Does anyone know how to disconnect a factory alarm? Permanently?! Also, does having the proper key actually make a difference to opperating the alarm system?

Re: manufacture alarm

It's cold here, so maybe that's why it's acting up?!

Re: manufacture alarm

If you want to disconnect, look under the drivers dash (above your feet) & find the anti-theft module. It has a 10 & 6 pin connector. Unplug it, but you will need to connect pins #5 & #6 (red & red/black wires) of the six pin connetor to each other to keep the starter functioning.

Does this work with 1995 Passat also?

Re: Re: manufacture alarm

actually the main problem I have right now is that when I turn the ignition key...nothing happens!

I thought this was originally related to the alarm because when I turn it a few times the alarm went off (which I didn't know I had).

I looked under the dash and I saw the fuse panel but did not see the car alarm dealy.

are these related (the nothing happens to the car alarm)

BTW the car alarm hasn't gone on since.

I also recently replaced the battery (before all this junk happened)

Re: manufacture alarm

The alarm is deactivated by turning the key in the driver's door to unlock. If the system is set off it will disable the starter.
