Replacing Windshield Molding

Sorry for my lack of proper terms.

I have a 1990 BMW 325i Convertible and I recently ordered new metal windshield molding. The metal molding goes around the windshield and then fastens with a clip at the center bottom of the windshield. The molding comes in a long strip that is inserted into the rubber that surrounds the windshield. I have no idea how to get this molding in.

I have tried soaping the groove in the rubber surrounding the windshield but I feel like that is the "hard" way to do it and there must be a better way where I dont feel like I might damage my car. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
BMW Murphy

Re: Replacing Windshield Molding

find a neighborhood glass shop, that installs auto glass. when asked nicely, most are willing to show how it is done and what tools are needed. Hope this helps. Mark
