95 Caravan 3.0L - Intermittent gas gauge

Occasionally, my gas gauge reads empty when I start the van. If I turn-off the engine and restart, 90% of the time, the gauge reads properly. The remaining 10% requires more than one restart.

I know that it is an electronic sender that communicates with the computer, but is there anything that I can do to resolve this (apart from changing the sender). The fact that it returns to normal after a restart kind of tells me that it might not be the sender unit... but then again, I am not the expert here ;-)

The car has a body control module (BCM) for controlling some instrumentation and windshield wipers. I believe it's a box located on the passenger side firewall area in the engine compartment.
I'm guessing: the fuel gauge signal may be coming in from here. You can try disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds (to reset the states) and see it the problem goes away.

Thanks for the info. The problem is intermittent (i.e. once or twice a week), but it is annoying. I will disconnect the battery and try to force a reset. I will also have a look at the BCM connectors to make sure that they are solidly in place.

If this works, fine. If not, then can I assume that the problem is either the BCM (more likely), the sender (probable) or the cable (less likely)? Any diagnostics to determine which is at fault?

Thanks in advance.
