? on tires for '02 Tahoe

I just bought my first SUV...an '02 Tahoe LS 4WD w/ the 5.3L. Anyways I noticed a nail in the sidewall of one of the tires so I started looking at a replacement. The tires on there are 265/75-16 whereas the tire websites say that stock was 265/70-16. Is this right? If so then I've got a 3% speedo error on the truck! Where does the speedo get inputs from? I could always go back to the right sized tires on the front/back (whichever is used by the speedo). I don't think it would hurt to have the fronts w/ 70 and the back w/75 (visually you wouldn't be able to tell). Any opinions? These are new tires and I don't want to buy 4 more new ones.
Thanks,
Geoff

Re: ? on tires for '02 Tahoe

My 2002 4wd Yukon has 265/70-16's stock. The speedo comes off the transmission so the right size tires should be on the back. Hope this helps...

Re: ? on tires for '02 Tahoe

you do not need to put different size tires on a 4x4 ...... if you put a smaller tire on the front the front axel will try and outrun the back axel while in 4x4 mode and cause some strain to the drive train

good point...I didn't think about when it's in 4WD. After thinking it over I can live with a 3% error. It's not that big of a deal.

i honestly think the only difference in those tires would be the width. 70's are wider than 75's. You can have the speedo calibrated. Look on the door, it will tell you the stock tire size.

I have an idea, for the stock tire size, crawl under the rear of the tahoe look up to the spare. Go buy what ever size the spare is!

I really like the BFG Long terrain, and what is most important, so does the wife. They grip so much better than the Big-o all terrain @#$# it had on it when we bought it.

Re: ? on tires for '02 Tahoe

Thanks guys, I'll just stick with the 75's for now even though stock is 70's. The truck only has 39K and the tires look brand new so I won't mess with them. I just don't like that the previous owner put on the cheap ass Goodyear Trackers from Walmart!
