Angry trans"sub"mision

major problem with the tranny in my 2000 blazer. it won't engage in any gear. i have seen no lights on to advise me of problems, so i don't know if scanning for codes will work. the shift linkage is ok, still moving, i checked this morning as is the fluid level.

my problem may be internal, just before it died, after starting from a dead stop, i heard a loud clunk and it imediately dropped itself into first. i tried shifting back to first and ran though the gears and into drive, but it hesitated and made loud clunking sounds.

Re: trans"sub"mision

The loud clunking noise is not a good sigh. Usually when there is a computer fault with the trans, it defaults to second gear. The Check Engine Light usually only illuminates when it affects emissions in some way. But if you have easy access to a scanner, I would check that first for any clues.

No warning lights..... that is confusing. Is the drive shaft laying on the ground under the vehicle? If no.. Put it in gear and have a buddy look under (from a safe location in case it does go in gear) to see if the driveshaft in turning, if it is.... the problem is in the rearend.
