99 Camaro won't start !?!?

Ok... Here is the problem I have a 99 v6 and it doesn’t want to start.

It cranks runs for a few seconds and loaps and idles very erratically.. It sounds like it is missing on a few cylinders... It is also running very rich.

I have checked Coils, ICM, PCV valve, MAS and cleaned the MAS, and Air Filter...
All these are fine so the problem is elsewhere.

I have a good idea that’s it is an ignition problem but where? I tried to run codes but the service engine light doesn’t come on and there are no codes stored.... Hence why I have a problem....

Anyone have this problem before or have any ideas... Thanks

that sounds like some crazy shiat. Have you checked your distributor ? Do the 99's even have them ? I don't know , I refuse to work on anything over 92'. Anywho , if not , then I dunno. Maybe some plugs are shot or ( had this happen to me once on my XT6 ) some plug wires worked lose and mine boxer 6 2.7 was missing 3 cylinders , went and reclipped the wires , started her back up. banging on all 6 again. Maybe this can help maybe not.

Did you check the spark plugs? it sould be the distributor wiers. That also could cause the car to die

no distributor, the 99's have coil packs.

tough situation though, you seem to have covered most of your bases, the only two that leap to mind though that you missed are the IAC (Idle Air Control Valve) and the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) but checking your wires for a solid connection is also a good idea.

i agree with 92rs25th, it could be something as simple as some plug wires came loose and cut or burnt though, it will cause the same problems.

Usually if you have a burnt wire and it's making contact or arc jumps , there will be a clicking sound..the electricity arcing.

Update 2:

Ok cleaned the throttle body and changed the plugs....

After removing the plugs 4 of the 6 still has some fuel on the tips.... So I wasn’t getting a good spark to ignite... After the new plugs were in I started it up and it ran great but slowly got worse...and then died... and now it seems to be a fuel problem and not an ignition problem as I first suspected.... Any ideas?

Then I ran some injector cleaner into the fuel rails and it started right up.... and ran as long as the injector cleaner was going thru... still will not start.... I’m lost..... Any help will be awesome....

I also check for any arc from the wires...

So a recap of today’s work: New Plugs, Checked fuel pressure (51psi), cleaned throttle body and ran some injector cleaner in the gas and thru the rails....

I have a feeling it might be the injectors but not sure.....

Re: 99 Camaro won't start !?!?

sounds like it could be the crank position sensor. thats what the newer engines use to determine proper timing for the ignition. if that sensor goes bad then it wont run, and you will have unburned fuel on the plugs.

Re: 99 Camaro won't start !?!?

I had some fuel on the end of my plugs one time but that was because I didn't torque my plugs all the way down on 6 and 8...pain in the ass to get to.

Yea thats what Im thinking.... Now it will start when its cold more than 75% of the time now, but when it warms up alittle (about 2-3 min) it dies.... Is there anyway to test the crank position sensor and where is it located? Thanks...
